In The Name Of Poetry

David Proskauer

David Proskauer from the USA. He was raised in Long Island, New York and have a few books of poetry published. For twenty-five years he has been lived in a group home for people with health issues in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. His roommate has Epilepsy and he is bi-polar. Throughout that time I have written about my experience there.

These poems present the power of poetry therapy.

I

My friend Asgher Gardezi
From India
And Oswego, New York
Played tennis with me.
He was a friend of my family’s
And cooked me lamb, rice and beans quite often
And brought the mystery
Of India
To my more plain and complacent country.
And his country with a population of Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus
Brings the world closer to me.

II.

The world is one country
And humankind it’s citizens
And let all the
Religions agree
So we have no
Political boarders
To cause wars
And misery

III.

A Former Baha’is Memoir
One is not a
Lonely number
I can concentrate
On what I’m doing
When I have no
Distractions or peace
Disencumbered
I no I feel
Unsure at times
No matter who
Is or is not
Around
And wouldn’t it
Be nice if the
World was one
Country
And humankind
It’s citizens
With no wars
Political turmoil
Or racial
And religious incidents
But I’m not a citizen of the world
I’m a personal
Birthright Quaker
With a personal face
Who does not want to
Cahoot or retreat
Into a community
Of pseudo atheists
